What is yoga therapy?
Yoga therapy is a gentle, slow, restorative and restful way of finding freedom to move without pain. Yoga therapy is extremely gentle and very effective. You’ll learn how to release tension. Your ability to move and live well without pain will increase with practice.
What happens in a yoga therapy session?
During a one-hour session, you’ll practise aligning and moving bones, muscles and tissues more functionally to reduce pain and create ease. We'll explore breathwork to create more ease in the nervous system. Deep relaxation can also help to quiet the nervous system and reduce the pain response. When you feel more ease, you’ll become stronger and more flexible, and your pain will lessen or disappear.

Every individual is different; however, many people begin to feel the beneficial effects during the very first session.
How many sessions of yoga therapy will I need?
You might begin to feel the beneficial effects after the very first session. You’ll receive your personal program that you can use at home as a reference for your practice. You might find that the initial session is enough for you to move forward on your own. Or, you might want to schedule a follow-up one week, two weeks, or a month later. Your program depends entirely upon you and how it fits into your life.
Do I have to practise at home?
I highly recommend it. You’ll get out of pain much faster if you continue to practise the principles of pain-free movement and breathing that you learn in your sessions, whenever you can. To make it easier for you, you’ll receive your own customized program that you can use as a reference for your practice.
Do I need to see my doctor or health specialist before making an appointment?
Yoga therapy is extremely gentle and very effective. You’ll learn how to release tension, and to move very slowly and mindfully. Your ability to move without pain will increase with practice. If you have any concerns about doing any type of yoga practice, however, it’s a good idea to speak to your doctor or health specialist first. As yoga therapy is a relatively new form of pain therapy, your health specialist my not be familiar with it. They can contact me, with your permission, to discuss any concerns so I can tailor your practice even more specifically to your needs.
Yoga therapy offers complementary care to chiropractic, massage therapy, osteopathic, and other pain-relieving body work.
