Chronic Pain
"What We Think, We Become" ~ Buddha
Your nervous system is complex, and the gateway to your healing. The mind-body-spirit network comprises many different systems, including your thoughts, feelings, emotions, immune system, gut, fascial web, and pain modulation pathways. Each of these affects the other. Thoughts affect physical sensations, emotions affect thoughts and physical sensations, and so on. It is a great interconnected web.
Nervous System - How it Works
When it is out of balance, it limits healing capacity.
The Mind
Our thoughts directly influence our emotions.
Physical Body
The physical body includes the immune system and stores what we can't consciously deal with.
Emotional Body
Our emotions affect our physical body and immune system.
Deep Visceral Body
Houses intense feelings - shame, guilt, rage, and also is the seat of wisdom and intuition.
Danger (Pain) Pathways
Chronic pain is a sign of a hyperactive nervous system. Among other things, pain is affected by thoughts and emotions.
Immune system
Our immune system is affected by our emotions and has a deep memory.
Enteric Nervous System
The "belly brain," is also called our second brain. It's located in tissue in the stomach, esophagus, small intestine and colon. It has more neurons than the spinal cord and acts independently.
Fascial Web
Connective tissue links every cell in the body. It has more nerve endings than muscle tissue, it's connected to the nervous system and our emotions.
Awareness - The First Step Towards Healing
Becoming aware of your present state is the first step to healing. As you become aware of the sensations in your body, your thoughts and emotions, a subtle shift begins. With greater awareness comes the ability to make conscious choices, opening the door to change. You can change your pain.
