The Healing Benefits of Meditation

Hello and welcome!

In this practice, we'll be meditating in a way that helps to calm the body and the mind.  When we calm the breath, we also calm the mind.

And here are a few more ways that regular meditation helps us to stay healthy.

Meditation improves immune function: 
  • Meditators can produce greater number of antibodies to ward off illnesses such as the flu

and reduces the likelihood of disease: 
  • Telomeres, on ends of chromosomes, reduce damage to DNA and lower cell death. 
  • Shortened telomeres are linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimers
  • Decreasing stress has a direct effect on the enzyme telomerase, which counteracts the shortening of telomeres by adding DNA to them.
