Meditation improves immune function:
- Meditators can produce greater number of antibodies to ward off illnesses such as the flu
and reduces the likelihood of disease:
- Telomeres, on ends of chromosomes, reduce damage to DNA and lower cell death.
- Shortened telomeres are linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimers
- Decreasing stress has a direct effect on the enzyme telomerase, which counteracts the shortening of telomeres by adding DNA to them.
